Report: Brian Williams Dragging Out Negotiations With NBC Brass

By Brian Flood

Suspended Nightly News anchor Brian Williams and his big-name attorney Robert Barnett are making NBC executives suffer through tedious negotiations, according to the New York Daily News.

The Daily News reports that talks between the network and Barnett have become extremely contentious, with the Williams camp thinking longer talks make the network look bad. Meanwhile, NBC execs “really just want to get past this moment and move on.”

A different source told the paper that both claims are “totally bogus on all counts.”

Barnett is a well-known attorney who has brokered deals for President Obama, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin and has also represented NBC News president Deborah Turness.

With Williams’ six-month suspension due to end in August, the belief is that a decision will come soon regarding the fate of the veteran newser. The Daily News also mentions that Williams was offered an Ann Currylike role at the network and that he is not likely to return to Nightly News as anchor or retain his title as managing editor.

Last week, we caught up with NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie, who is waiting for a decision… just like everybody else.
