Q1 2011 Ratings: Breaking News Leads to Declines at HLN

By Alex Weprin

A plethora of international news may have helped HLN’s older sibling CNN in the ratings, but it did not boost the younger network’s lineup of more lifestyle, entertainment and crime-centric programming.

HLN was down in both total viewers and the demo in primetime and total day for Q1 2011, when compared to the same quarter last year.

Here are HLN’s Q1 ’11 averages:

  • Total day (Mon-Sun): 244K Total / 101K A25-54
  • Prime (Mon-Sun): 361K Total / 115K A25-54

The biggest bright spot for HLN was “Morning Express with Robin Meade,” which has topped MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” in the key adults 25-54 demo for eight consecutive quarters.

HLN’s primetime lineup of Nancy Grace and Joy Behar were both down from 2009, though they will soon be joined by Dr. Drew Pinsky, who starts his daily HLN program at 9 PM starting April 4.
