FNC’s Greta Van Susteren and NBC’s Matt Lauer have joined her in her kitchen; CNN’s Larry King and Wolf Blitzer got their long-awaited interviews yesterday; and this morning, the cable news networks carried both a live a news conference and Gov. Sarah Palin’s remarks to the Republican Governors Association conference in Miami.
“Drawing on her considerable reserves of charm she is using the media to complain about unfair media coverage,” writes WaPo’s Howard Kurtz. “And she has a point.”
Kurtz also notes the criticism Lauer and Van Susteren received for — in one critic’s opinion — going soft on Palin. Van Susteren then called out Kurtz on her GretaWire blog. The post was later taken down. Through a spokesperson, Van Susteren tells TVNewser she removed the post, plans to edit it and re-post it tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Media Life Magazine’s Toni Fitzgerald calls CBS’ Katie Couric the “comeback kid” for her Palin interview which has garnered more than 10 million views online. “With her big-buzz interview of Sarah Palin two months ago, Couric suddenly seems to have hit her stride,” writes Fitzgerald. “Though her ratings aren’t rising, they have stabilized, and more importantly, she’s racking up the critical kudos that eluded her for so long after a splashy start.”
The Daily Show is weighing in on all the coverage, focusing on the two hours devoted to the Van Susteren interview. “If that’s what made it ‘On the Record,’ I’d hate to see the shit that was off the record,” joked Jon Stewart.
