If you didn’t know, today is National Weatherperson’s Day, and The Weather Channel’s Chairman and CEO David Kenny took a moment to praise his staff.
In an internal memo obtained by TVNewser, Kenny compliments The Weather Channel’s team of meteorologists.
“The true dedication to service, to keeping people safe, and to advancing the science is amazing and is the spirit that drives our company.”
He also singles out Jim Cantore, who was recently named “Weather Person of the Year” by the non-profit Federal Alliance for Safe Homes.
“Jim is a great ambassador for our company and his profession, something he has in common with all of our on camera and behind-the-scenes mets,” Kenny added.
The Weather Channel remains unavailable in 20 million DirecTV homes. The Channel has been off the satellite TV service for more than 3 weeks as the companies spar over fees.

Weather is at the core of everything we do, and we all are incredibly proud of the fact that we have more than 220 meteorologists on our team. Today, February 5, is National Weatherperson’s Day, and I want to take a moment to recognize our colleagues. If you ask any meteorologist why they chose their career, you will hear amazing stories that tell you it is not just a profession, it is a calling. The true dedication to service, to keeping people safe, and to advancing the science is amazing and is the spirit that drives our company. I know we are all proud to be associated with this profession.
In addition, as you may have read, it was in honor of National Weatherperson’s Day that our own Jim Cantore was named “Weatherperson of the Year” by the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes. I want to congratulate Jim again on behalf of all of us. To be recognized by a non-profit focused on disaster preparedness, an issue so important to Jim, is an appropriate honor. Jim is a great ambassador for our company and his profession, something he has in common with all of our on camera and behind-the-scenes mets.
