Nets to carry Pre-Prime Presidential Address on Libya

By Chris Ariens

The broadcast networks plan special reports at 7:30pmET Monday as Pres. Obama addresses the situation in Libya from the National Defense University. This means the evening newscasts will have to update for the West Coast. And most Mountain time zone stations which air national news at 5:30, will not get a full evening newscast, but rather the President’s statement. Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos co-anchor the special for ABC, Bob Schieffer anchors for CBS News for the vacationing Katie Couric. (Russ Mitchell anchors “Evening News” on Monday; Erica Hill anchors Tuesday-Friday). Brian Williams anchors for NBC News. The cable networks will of course carry the statement. By going at 7:30pmET, the White House is being mindful of the networks’ primetime entertainment schedule. Fox Broadcasting will also carry the address, with Bret Baier anchoring. Gwen Ifill will anchor coverage on PBS.
