The primetime newsmagazines (save for TV news leader “60 Minutes”) are often thought of as filler by network schedulers.
NBC’s “Dateline” has not been immune from that perception.
Despite being scheduled on Friday nights, with an additional hour on Sundays against tough competition, “Dateline” has been able to make some ratings strides:

Last Friday, February 4, the program placed first in total viewers and the demo from 10-11 PM, and a close second in both categorizes from 9-10 PM. Friday’s A25-54 performance was its strongest since the special edition that aired following the death of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett in December, 2009.
