NBC Bosses Happy With Matt Lauer’s Forum Performance

By Chris Ariens

NBCU CEO Steve Burke held a town hall for employees this morning, something he does several times a year.

Originating from Saturday Night Live’s Studio 8H, Burke updated NBCU’s 50,000 global employees about the new Fall TV season, the Rio Olympics as well as other NBC divisions, including News. Despite some serious blows the network received for Matt Lauer‘s moderating of the presidential forum Wednesday night, Burke thanked the team for putting together Wednesday’s day-long coverage from the Intrepid, adding, “Matt did a great job,” according to a source who listened in to the internal telecast.

This afternoon, NBC News chairman Andy Lack added his appreciation to the NBC News team. In an email to staff, obtained by TVNewser, Lack writes, “I wanted to take just a moment to share how proud I am of all the work our teams produced together this week.”

Against all odds we were able to bring the two presidential nominees together for the first time and presented an important examination of what each would bring to the role of Commander-in-Chief. Because of our event, national security has dominated the news cycle for days. Every major paper and news broadcast around the world has led with headlines about Putin, Iraq, ISIS, and intelligence briefings. Matt did a tremendous job – driving one of the most serious discussions to date on these topics. My deepest thanks to everyone who helped pull off this remarkable achievement.
