Some of the first reporting many Americans got on the earthquake in Japan happened when they turned on their TVs Friday morning. And for that reason, the network morning shows saw some of the best ratings in years — GMA’s Friday broadcast was its most watched Friday telecast in 8 years. “Today” had its biggest day — 6.612 million Total Viewers — since February 25, 2010 (Vancouver Olympics).
“Today” was #1 for the week with a +720,000 lead on #2 “Good Morning America.” All three shows were up, year-over-year, with “GMA” up the most in Total Viewers (+12%), and “Today” up most in younger viewers (+9%).
The averages for the week of March 7:
- Total Viewers: NBC: 5.94M / ABC: 5.22M / CBS: 2.79M
- A25-54 viewers: NBC: 2.76M / ABC: 1.96M / CBS: 1.17M
