May ’10 Ratings: Fox News Down, But Still On Top

Fox News was down single digits in total viewers and the demo in May, but still maintained its dominance over the cable news pack.

The numbers:

Total day (Mon-Sun): 1.04M total/284K A25-54
Prime (Mon-Sun): 1.8M total/449K A25-54

In total day the network was down -6% in total viewers and -2% in the demo. In prime the channel was down -8% in total viewers and -4% in the demo.

Fox News’ primetime shows mostly saw declines in total and demo viewers, but some of the network’s daytime program’s were able to add viewers year to year.

“Fox & Friends” was up +1% in total viewers and +8% in the demo, beating all of the cable competition.

At 4 p.m. “Your World with Neil Cavuto” was down -2% in total viewers but up +4% in the demo, winning its time period in both for the 100th consecutive month.

At 5 p.m. “Glenn Beck” was up +10% in total viewers and 25% in the demo, while at 6 p.m. “Special Report with Bret Baier” was up +8% in total viewers and +6% in the demo.

At 7 p.m. “Fox Report with Shephard Smith” was down 3% in total viewers and 2% in the demo.

In primetime, the only growth was from “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren”, which was up +1% in the demo at 10 p.m. The program was down -3% in the demo.

“The O’Reilly Factor” was down -6% in total viewers and -1% in the demo at 8 p.m. The 11 p.m. replay was down -9% and -14% respectively in total viewers and the demo.

At 9 p.m. “Hannity” was down -9% in total viewers and -7% in the demo.

Despite the declines in primetime, “Glenn Beck,” “The O’Reilly Factor” and “Hannity” were the top three cable news programs for the month.
