Breaking: After four years of litigation and discovery including a videotaped deposition by Nancy Grace, a Florida family has suddenly dropped its lawsuit against the HLN host.
Two-year-old Trenton Duckett went missing in August of 2006. In the weeks that followed, his mother appeared as a guest on Grace’s HLN show. The day after a contentious appearance, Melinda Duckett committed suicide. Two months later, in Nov. 2006, Duckett’s family sued Grace and CNN for causing emotional distress.
In a statement released this afternoon, lawyers representing the Duckett family write, “The parties have resolved their differences and dismissal papers were filed with the federal court in Ocala.”
The parties now agree that Nancy Grace, the producers of her program, and CNN engaged in no intentional wrongdoing in the course of dedicating a program to finding the missing toddler.
The family has also apologized to CNN and to Grace. “We are pleased the lawsuit has been dismissed,” a CNN spokesperson adds.
Trenton Duckett, who’d be 6-years-old now, has never been found.
