Katrina: “I’m In An Abandoned City”

By Brian

Following up on this post, Steve Harrigan continues to report via videophone near a fire in downtown New Orleans.

“This is really the heart of what’s called the warehouse district in downtown New Orleans. On the street we have about twenty men from different government agencies, all with rifles, and they all have got their hands on their rifles. Just a few minutes ago, we heard a shot, a pistol shot from over to my right. We saw some of those men with rifles run that way….

It is a remarkable atmosphere down here. I’ve never seen anything like this in the United States. I’ve seen this and felt this sometimes in war zones, but I feel like I’m in an abandoned city where two sides are fighting it out.”
