Joe Torre Headed Back To The Broadcast Booth?

By Marcus Vanderberg

With Joe Torre reiterating his retirement on Tuesday, the former manager mentioned he was mulling over several broadcast offers.

“I have been putting it off every month,” said Torre, who was one of four retiring managers honored by baseball commissioner Bud Selig at a news conference during the winter meetings. “I have been saying, ‘I’ll do it after this, that or the other thing.’ As it turns out, I’m going to wait until after the first of the year and see what happens. … I have had some inquiries about broadcasting, which certainly is tempting because I did it for six years and I enjoyed it.”

After he was fired from the Atlanta Braves in 1984, Torre worked as a television analyst for the California Angels from 1985-1990.

Considering Torre’s other option is an undefined role in the unstable Dodgers’ front office, a return to the broadcast booth doesn’t sound so bad for the 70-year-old.
