Jacko Not Guilty: Ratings Tidbits

By Brian

> According to Drudge, between 5:15 and 5:30pm, FNC averaged 4,804,000 viewers, while CNN had 3,479,000 and MSNBC had 1,457,000. Update: 8:43pm: “Fox News Channel, CNN and MSNBC collectively had about 10 million viewers at a time they’d usually have fewer than 2 million,” the AP notes.

> “FNC had a 4.3 for the Jackson Verdict. Yikes! Those are war numbers!,” an e-mailer says.

> Larry King averaged 1,736,000 viewers, barely beating H&C’s 1,734,000. And from 6 to 6:15pm ET, CNN beat FNC by 19% in P2+ (2,008,000 vs. 1,685,000 viewers) and 50% in the 25-54 demo (871,000 vs. 582,000 viewers). FNC beat CNN for the rest of the day. Update: 6:56pm: “I think it’s only fair to note that FNC refused to pre-empt Brit Hume’s show for that hour (which ignored the verdict entirely), despite the Jackson mania,” an e-mailer says. “So they paid a bit of a price in ratings. But the 6-7 hour FNC numbers were not really Jackson Verdict numbers for that reason.”

> “Between 4:43 and 6 p.m. Monday, the roadblocked coverage of the Michael Jackson verdict drew a total of 24.6 million households on 11 English language networks and two Spanish-language,” according to Broadcasting & Cable.

> Court TV delivered a 3.4 rating between 5 and 5:15pm. It “marked the largest audience ever delivered” by the network, Multichannel News says.

> “In both total day and primetime, CNN delivered the most P18-34 than any other cable news network,” a CNN press release noted.

> In the 12-34 demographic, MTV News beat CNN, FOX, and all the other cable nets during the 4:30 to 5:30pm hour.

> Nancy Grace averaged 713,000 viewers between 8 and 9pm, a 43% increase over May 2005. (She averaged 257,000 in the demo, a 67% increase.)
