Italians Enjoy Some Strange NBA Games

By Noah Davis

We just moved into a new apartment, and we don’t have a television yet. Since we wanted to watch the Boston Celtics-Denver Nuggets game last night and are too poor to do to a bar, we settled down into a pirated feed from an Italian station. (+1for the Internet.)

The network showing the game was Dolce Sport, beamed straight from Italy. It was lovely. Nothing like listening to Shaq dunk in Italian.

During one of the promo breaks, we noticed something interesting. A list of upcoming NBA games on Dolce Sport featured the usual list of suspects: Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, and Miami. Each is a storied franchise with a correspondingly big international fanbase. But San Antonio and Denver? Really? Why would the Italians want to watch either of those two teams?

It’s not that either one is bad. It’s just we can’t imagine choosing to export either of those two squads. Maybe it’s Tony Parker’s fault?
