How is Piers Morgan Doing Compared to Larry King?

By Chris Ariens

“Piers Morgan Tonight” has been on two full weeks. So how’s he doing?

Well, according to Nielsen, the program has averaged 978,000 Total Viewers and 279,000 A25-54 viewers, placing Morgan third behind Fox News and MSNBC. Compared to the same two weeks of 2010, Larry King in the 9pmET timeslot averaged 989,000 Total Viewers and 290,000 in the A25-54 demo. King was second in the time slot at this time last year, but Rachel Maddow on MSNBC would later pull ahead. It was also during this time that CNN was extensively covering the earthquake in Haiti, which included a telethon broadcast in primetime on Jan. 22, 2010.

Morgan’s interview with the Kardashaians last Thursday was his least-watched show so far averaging 498,000 Total Viewers — beaten by CNBC in the timeslot — and second-least watched in younger viewers. Interestingly, the George Clooney hour on Friday, Jan. 21 drew the least A25-54 viewers so far with 121K.
