Robin Roberts has John Saunders to thank for putting her “on the map.” Roberts along with GMA’s Jesse Palmer reflected on what the late ESPN host meant to their TV careers.

“The reason I did NFL Primetime, which really put me on the map, is because of John,” said Roberts. “He stepped down from that position to do baseball and he was the one that shoved me in the boss’s office and said, ‘Ask for that job!'”

Palmer, who played in the NFL, before becoming a sports commentator, added, “He was so good at TV. He made me better at my job. I was lucky to work with him, but more than that he made me love this profession so much more.”
