The Hollywood Reporter‘s Lacy Rose chats up “Good Morning America” Senior EP James Goldston about the changes coming to morning TV. Goldston, a relative newcomer to the mornings, calls Meredith Vieira’s departure from “Today,” “a huge loss.”

“She’s a formidable talent and that’s going to be an issue for them and we’ll see how that plays out,” says Goldston. “Certainly, we feel that we’re in a very competitive position now and the numbers are encouraging. We’ll see perhaps some of our best numbers in 20 years last week with the royal wedding coverage.”

Goldston calls the rumor that Robin Roberts may be the next morning anchor to go, “total garbage.”

“We told [The Daily, which reported the news] that it was total garbage and they wouldn’t listen. It remains total garbage.”
