Fireworks About the Fireworks

The New York Times’ Brian Stelter writes of “another consequence,” of the tape delayed Opening Ceremony on NBC — awkward live shots.

This morning on Squawk Box, co-anchor Carl Quintanilla joked with Joe Kernen and Becky Quick about Friday’s show, “when bright fireworks were lighting up the sky behind the business news channel’s live shot,” writes Stelter.

Quintanilla and his guest Friday morning, CNBC reporter Darren Rovell, didn’t comment on the display behind them, to continue the illusion the Opening Ceremony was taking place that night.

“We didn’t know how much trouble we were going to be in, so we didn’t joke about it,” said Quick.

Meanwhile, some of the fireworks seen during the broadcast weren’t there at all. The footprint sequence was actually done digitally through 3-D computer graphics.
