Evening News Ratings: Week of May 22

By A.J. Katz

Last week saw a rare uptick in viewership for one of the evening newscasts.

NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt was up +1 percent in viewers last week versus the same week last year, while ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir was down -5 percent and the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley was down -2 percent.

In the A25-54 demo, all three broadcasts were down year-over-year: NBC was down -3 percent, ABC down -6 percent and CBS, which will soon get a new anchor, was down -11 percent.

Nightly News won the week in both viewers and the demo. But the NBC program excluded Friday from the average, while ABC and CBS are based on a 5-day average. Had NBC been rated all five days, ABC would have won the week as it held a commanding lead (+333,000 viewers) on Friday.
