By Chris Ariens

EveningNewsNewThe three evening newscasts had their best week in three years last week as winter’s cold grip keeps millions of viewers inside and tuned in. A combined 28.23 million viewers watched one of the three newscasts last week, the most since the week of January 31, 2011.

All three broadcasts were up week-to-week and year-over-year with “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley” showing the most growth in viewers (+20%) and “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer up the most in the demo (+21%) compared to the same week last year. In fact, Sawyer’s broadcast ranked #1 Monday and Wednesday among younger viewers with Monday’s broadcast seeing its best demo viewership since Feb. 1, 2011.

“NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” was tops again in both measurements and also seeing double digit growth: +12% in viewers and +11% in the demo. With a series of winter storms affecting much of the nation this week, and Williams anchoring form the Winter Olympics in Sochi beginning Thursday, the evening newscasts could see another banner week.
