Cybersquatters Hop On AlJazeeraAmerica.com

By Alex Weprin

As I reported yesterday, it isn’t entirely clear what Al Jazeera’s new U.S. network will be called.

While beIN and beIN News are said to be options, the New York Times reports that the current working name is “Al Jazeera America.” If that is the preferred name, the company should have done its due diligence, because squatters have already secured AlJazeeraAmerica.com, and have it redirect visitors to StopAlJazeera.org.

The redirected website has the headline “Terror Television” and links to a documentary, stories and video from Accuracy In Media, a conservative media watchdog site.

A WhoIs search showed that the domain was registered the day the story broke, though the buyer is not listed. That said, one can infer what company secured the domain, simply by the large “Donate” button on the right, which directs visitors to donate to AIM.
