CNN Readying New DC Studios For Election Night 2012

By Alex Weprin

By November 6, 2012–election day–CNN will have swanky new studios in Washington DC up and running, a CNN spokesperson tells TVNewser.

For today’s Iowa Caucus coverage, CNN is basing its coverage out of Atlanta. NewsCastStudio says the CNN Election Center is originating from Studio 7, the channel’s newest studio at its worldwide headquarters. Coverage of most, if not all, of the GOP primaries will originate from Studio 7 this year.

The Atlanta studio features all of the technological gimmicks that have been a staple of CNN’s election coverage, including the “Magic Wall” made famous by John King. Expect the new studios in Washington to be fully equipped with new technology when they are unveiled later this year.

Following the election, the studios will serve as the new homes of “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” and CNN’s other DC-based programs.
