Cable Nets Make More Bets on Film

Fusion is joining CNN in the documentary film acquisition business.

Yesterday, Fusion announced it has acquired the U.S. TV rights to True Son which premiered recently at the Tribeca Film Festival. The documentary follows 22-year-old Stanford graduate Michael Tubbs and his campaign to win a seat on the Stockton, CA City Council. True Son will debut on Fusion Nov. 18 at 9pmET, following its limited theatrical release last night.

Earlier this week, CNN announced it has partnered with RADiUS for an as-yet untitled film about campus sex crimes. Filmmakers Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering will direct and produce the film, which will hit theaters first in 2015, then appear on CNN later. Other upcoming CNN Films include “Dinosaur 13,” about paleontologist Peter Larson’s multi-year odyssey to bring his history-making find of the Tyrannosaurus Rex “Sue” to the world and “Life Itself,” a biographical profile of renowned film critic Roger Ebert.
