CNBC Taps Bloomberg’s Krim to Oversee Digital

By Alex Weprin

CNBC has tapped Kevin Krim as its new GM of digital, reporting directly to CNBC president Mark Hoffman. Krim joins CNBC from Bloomberg, where he had been global head of digital, overseeing Bloomberg.com and BusinessWeek.com, among other sites.

In a note to staff, Hoffman notes that CNBC has been expanding its digital offering in recent years, adding mobile apps and new products, like the subscription CNBC Pro.

“Our digital businesses have matured to a point where we need a Digital General Manager to develop and execute a cohesive digital strategy that will take CNBC to the next level,” Hoffman wrote.

The addition of Krim will result in a management realignment. Details on that in Hoffman’s note, after the jump.

Since the relaunch of CNBC.com in 2006, our digital businesses have grown exponentially. CNBC.com has experienced strong traffic growth and is firmly established as one of the top business news destinations online. We have launched many innovative digital products and services including critically acclaimed mobile apps and the subscription service, CNBC PRO.

Our digital businesses have matured to a point where we need a Digital General Manager to develop and execute a cohesive digital strategy that will take CNBC to the next level. I am pleased to announce that effective today, veteran digital media executive Kevin Krim will become CNBC’s new Digital General Manager reporting to me. Kevin joins CNBC from Bloomberg where he was the global head of Bloomberg Digital. He was responsible for Bloomberg.com and BusinessWeek.com, as well as the integration of the company’s television, radio, news and data content into new digital products and services. Kevin’s depth of digital expertise coupled with his knowledge and passion for financial markets makes him uniquely qualified to lead CNBC Digital.

Putting in place a Digital General Manager requires realignment of our existing Digital organization. Effective today, CNBC.com, under the direction of Meredith Stark, and Digital Products (CNBC PRO, Mobile and iTV teams) will report directly to Kevin. Lou Tosto, SVP, CNBC Digital Sales, will be a dotted-line report to Kevin and work very closely with him on Digital’s revenue strategy. In the coming weeks, we will finalize how key digital functions will align with the new Digital structure.

Scott Drake will continue to lead CNBC’s Technology organization reporting to me. Technological development and innovation is pivotal to CNBC’s competitiveness across our TV, Digital and International businesses. Scott and his team will partner across CNBC to drive the technology strategy that powers CNBC’s products and services.

Before joining Bloomberg, Kevin served as Vice President of product and strategy for Yahoo! HotJobs and Yahoo! Small Business, both of which were top five businesses for Yahoo! globally. Prior to joining Yahoo! in 2006, Kevin was General Manager of LiveJournal.com, a global social network and blogging community that inspired and provided many fundamental technology components for Facebook.com. Previously, he was Vice President for web properties at LookSmart Ltd., which acquired a start-up, Zeal.com, co-founded by Kevin in 1999. Kevin earned an A.B. from Harvard College before starting his career as a consultant with McKinsey & Company. He lives in New York City with his family.

Digital is a dynamic and rapidly changing space.  Under Kevin’s leadership, I am confident that CNBC Digital is well positioned for continued growth and success.

Please join me in welcoming Kevin to CNBC.
