CNBC Secures Obama Interview

By Alex Weprin

CNBC has secured an interview with President Obama, just a few days into the government shutdown.

CNBC’s DC correspondent John Harwood will sit down with the President today, with the interview airing at 4 PM on “Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo.”

CNBC–and Harwood in particular–have interviewed Obama handful of times, including in 2009 when he was President-Elect, and again in 2010 as part of an economic town hall.

Obama has generally not given many interviews to financial news outlets, given their limited audience. That said, that limited audience holds a lot of economic power, so when he does talk to a CNBC, Bloomberg or FBN, it is so that he can send a message to Wall Street. Bloomberg TV actually had the first post-election interview with the President in 2012.
