Christine O’Donnell: TV Pundit?

By Alex Weprin

By now, any avid TV news viewer should know the name Christine O’Donnell. The newly-minted Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate seat in Delaware has been all over the news networks, which have been covering her upset win over Mike Castle.

Today, Politico has a story comprised entirely of ex O’Donnell aides–mostly from her failed 2008 Senate bid–bashing their former boss.

One of those staffers was Alan Moore, who currently works for the conservative website Townhall.com (Update: Jonathan Garthwaite from Townhall.com says that Moore’s comments do not in any way reflect those of the site. His statemenmt is after the jump). Moore tells Politico that O’Donnell was more interested in a TV gig than actually holding office:

Moore, who first decided to volunteer for O’Donnell after hearing about her at a meeting of college Republicans, said that at one point, O’Donnell talked to him about winning a lucrative television contract with CNN or Fox News Channel.

“I informed her that most media organizations prohibit their employees from running for office. She didn’t seem to understand and was more interested in getting a contract,” he recalled. “She was more concerned about getting a TV deal than winning office.”

The statement from Townhall.com’s Jonathan Garthwaite:

The unfortunate and unauthorized quote by Alan Moore regarding Christine O’Donnell does not reflect the editorial opinion of Townhall or HotAir. Alan is not part of the editorial team at Townhall/HotAir. Alan is a talented professional who manages software development and search engine marketing for me at Townhall/HotAir. He is not a spokesman for Townhall and his quotes do not in any way resemble the feelings of the rest of the team at Townhall or HotAir. As you might have seen, Ed Morrissey of HotAir, Guy Benson, Katie Pavlich among others have been O’Donnell boosters for a long while. Alan’s issues with O’Donnell likely stem from past dealings as a 2008 campaign staffer/volunteer and aren’t relevant to Townhall or HotAir’s support of her candidacy today. An O’Donnell win in the primary was the best thing for conservatives and her victory in November would be a win for the American people.
