Chris Matthews’ Wife Planning to Run for Office

By Brian Flood

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews might have a live-in politician soon.

Kathleen Matthews is Marriott International’s executive vice president and chief global communications and public affairs officer. She’s also the MSNBC host’s wife. Matthews is planning to run for the seat of Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) in the 2016 elections, according to Politico.

Chris isn’t the only Matthews with a TV news background, as Kathleen spent 25 years as a local news anchor at ABC’s Washington D.C. affiliate WJLA. She “retired” from news in 2006 to join Marriott.

We hear Chris will address the situation on “Hardball” tonight at 7pmET.

An MSNBC source tells TVNewser:

As this process moves forward, if Kathleen decides to run for office, MSNBC and the Hardball Team would take all appropriate measures to ensure that coverage is transparent and fair, which would include fully disclosing Chris’ relationship to Kathleen if her candidacy is mentioned either by him or a guest.
