camimccorm3.jpgBreaking: CBS News correspondent Cami McCormick was injured today in Logar Province, Afghanistan, while on assignment for CBS Radio News.

McCormick was traveling with members of the U.S. Army when their vehicle hit an IED.

CBS News president Sean McManus says McCormick underwent surgery at a field hospital to stabilize her condition. She’s been transported to Bagram Air Base for additional treatment.

McCormick is based in New York City and has been with CBS Radio News since September, 1998. The award-winning war correspondent was in Afghanistan to cover the recent elections and the continued fighting in the region.

This news comes on the day that we learn August 2009 will go down as the deadliest month for U.S. servicemembers in Afghanistan since the invasion after the 9/11 attacks. 46 U.S. servicemembers have been killed this month surpassing last month’s toll of 45.
