Cable Network Ranker: Week of August 13

Late Summer didn’t seem to have much effect on the cable channels last week, with most networkshanging in ratings neighborhoods that were about par for the course.

Fox News Channel was the top cable news channel among all ad-supported cable networks. FNC placed 4th in both primetime (behind USA, History and TNT) and total day, with 2.03 and 1.15 million viewers, respectively. MSNBC improved a bit in primetime to 19th overall (between TLC and Nick at Nite), and was 25th in total day. The network averaged 932,000 and 492,000 viewers, respectively. CNN was 36th in primetime (between Travel Channel and Nat Geo Channel) and 34th in total day with 469,000 and 345,000 viewers.

HLN was 43rd in primetime (between Science Channel and Country Music Television) and total day with 322,000 and 248,000 viewers, respectively. Current TV was 93rd in primetime and 94th in total day.

Among the business networks, CNBC led the way as usual, placing 55th in primetime (right behind Weather Channel)and 58th in total day with 195,000 and 127,000 viewers, respectively. Fox Business placed 84th in primetime (right behind a network called Cloo) and 82nd in total day with 80,000 and 56,000 viewers, respectively. Bloomberg TV hasn’t been rated by Nielsen since it launched back in the mid-90’s.
