As The Irish Invade GMA, “Today” Goes to Ireland

By Chris Ariens

With February ratings month pushed into March, sweeps began yesterday, and the morning shows are taking advantage. This morning, Good Morning America aired its much-promoted, first-ever morning show concert appearance by U2 (more on that later on TVNewser, with exclusive in-the-crowd video.)

And as the world’s most famous Irishmen came to GMA, we’ve learned Today show is going to Ireland to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The Irish Independent reports Meredith Vieira and Al Roker will report from County Wicklow on March 16 and then from Dublin Castle on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17). And the newspaper is very proud of its reporting on the matter:

Documents seen by the Irish Independent, show the ‘Today Show’ plans to bring an entourage of between 20 to 25 people to Dublin for the one-off broadcasts.

“The programme will take a look at the country’s heritage, politics, culture, landscape, music, cuisine and fashion, and the St Patrick’s Festival celebration,” an NBC source confirmed.

Now let’s see if the luck of the Irish will rub off on the morning shows in the form of elevated ratings.
