An Update on ABC’s One-Person Foreign Bureaus

By SteveK

Last month ABC News launched a foreign bureau expansion, putting seven reporters in parts of Asia, Africa and South America. Now, the American Journalism Review is following up how the one-person bureaus are holding up.

With a focus on Dana Hughes, who is stationed in Nairobi, Kenya, the piece describes the variety of reporting methods used when the reporter serves all roles in the bureau. Hughes submitted stories for ABC News Radio, the World News Webcast and the ABC News Now digital platform.

During the recent Bangladesh cyclone disaster, Nick Schifrin (who helms his own bureau in New Delhi) submitted many one-man-band stories like this one for World News.
