American Express and NBA Makes Sweet Sponsorship Music Again

By Noah Davis

Some might argue that the NBA has never been better on the court. It’s getting pretty good off it as well.

American Express re-signs as a sponsor of the league, joining Bacardi, State Farm, and Spanish financial company BBVA as companies that have jumped onto David Stern’s back this year.

Am Ex was an NBA sponsor from 1995 to 2005, and Courtney Kelso, the company’s vice president for global media and sponsorship marketing, says they got back in the game because of increased requests from cardholders.

Boston Celtics, the New York Knicks, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Washington Wizards already have existing deals with the company, which is considering launching an NBA-themed marketing campaign.

An amusing ad from the past after the jump.
