Why the 'Workaholics' like to tweet

One of the most fascinating comedies on the air right now is Comedy Central’s (dirtier than Louie) show Workaholics. The Office Space-like sitcom centers around “Blake, Adam and Ders, three friends who work together as telemarketers from 9 to 5, live together from 5 to 9 and party together 24/7.” The show isn’t only fascinating because of the outrageously-themed situations the trio get themselves into ditching work and creating chaos, but because they both grew out of social web fame and write each episode they star in.

Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine, Anders Holm and Kyle Newacheck (who directs the show and also plays their weed dealer) originally became famous for their YouTube presence as Mail Order Comedy. The guys began throwing up videos on the video site six years ago and posted their last one two years ago as their new Comedy Central show took off. The show works so well because the four best friends are exactly the same on the show as they are in real life. We interviewed the Workaholics at Comic-Con, who interestingly described how their show works so well because they write it so they never need to stick to an exact script out of fear of annoying a show writer. They also told why they’re on Twitter.

In the following video, Blake and Kyle discuss with Lost Remote and other press how they’ve gotten around broadcast profanity rules and why they like to tweet. “I usually hit my rampages when I’m drunk,” Anderson told Lost Remote. “I always see those, like eight in a row and I was like, oh, Ders was fucked up,” Newacheck added. “I was on fire this morning, I woke up real hungover, I think I had some of my best tweets this morning.” Newacheck described the “very natural feel,” that the show has because of their friendship.

Next we spoke to Adam and Anders. My first question was to uncover if his Wikipedia page was actually telling the truth about him going to Fordham University and studying journalism. “No – when we were doing sketch stuff, they were rebooting the National Lampoons…I just cut and pasted Denzel Washington’s bio…and somehow that’s made it ALL over the internet,” he hilariously explained. When we asked them why they use Twitter, Adam answered, “nude photos…mostly.” Anders jumped in and explained that “I just talk on Twitter, if I think of something funny I say it, if I’m watching something that I think is interesting ill say it – I’m not into it only being a platform for comedy, that’s boring,” he told Lost Remote. “Now it [Twitter] doesn’t show you all of them [tweets] if you’re not on Twitter for an hour, I used to like to roll through it…” Adam added that “the reason my voice is the way it is right now is because Blake Griffin direct messaged me, the basketaball player…all last night I kept screaming BLAKE GRIFFIN IS MY HOMEBOY!”
