HBO’s hit political comedy “Veep,” which has a knack for weaving social media references about Twitter and Instagram into the show, announced that it’s been renewed for a fourth season today.

And what did fans get when calling the number written in that tweet? Well, in trademark Vice President Selina Meyer (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus) fashion, “voters” received an unintended earful.
“Hello friend, this is Selina Meyer, Vice President of the United States…this is a recording, so please don’t try to reply,” VP Meyer says on a taped recording that asks voters to support her presidential run.
“If Calvin Coolidge, who once said…” Meyer continues, before stopping and asking her clumsy “Communications Director” Mike to press pause on the recording. “Copy,” he replies.
Unfortunately for the VP, her aide doesn’t know how to operate the pause button, and the caller goes on to hear the following:
“Why am I quoting Coolidge? I have no idea why I’m doing that, Meyer says, asking Mike again if they were still on pause.
“How about a hip-hop lyric,” Mike responds. “No, that’s sexual.”
“I’ve got a million things to do, C’mon,” Meyer responds to Mike, then asking again if their conversation is on pause. She continues: “Please continue your crucial support for my campaign. Look out for my posters on Facebook and Twitter, and send me a message. I’d love to hear from you guys.”
“God, I hate doing these things,” Meyer concludes.
“Veep’s” ongoing success continues a TV trend of political themed shows winning audiences. We, of course, have reported on the ratings and social success of hit shows like “House of Cards” and “Scandal;” both which are built around deception and DC wheeling and dealing.
