The Weather Channel revamps iPhone app with photo sharing

The Weather Channel, which boasts one of the most downloaded iPhone apps ever, has pushed the biggest update since the app launched in 2008 with new social features (you can download here). The network recently celebrated their 30th birthday, and it launched a brand new site embedded with social. Here are the new social elements to their app.

The biggest update has to do with photo sharing, an essential part of any mobile app as Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram has show us. Photo sharing has been simplified so you can share your photos straight from your phone’s camera to send to The Weather Channel, Twitter, Facebook or email. (Notice the prominent camera icon on the home screen to entice more participation.) TWC will use these photos for their own social platform, iWitness as well.

The app also has a “social” tab with the latest tweets geolocated to your device (if you opted into geolocation.) As you may remember, this is the product of TWC’s partnership with Twitter last year.

Here’s a video demo provided by The Weather Channel.
