The NFL, VMAs, and The Walking Dead Lead Nielsen’s Tops of 2015

As the year rounds out with best of lists, Twitter and Nielsen have teamed up for their own “Tops of 2015.” The first installment has all the most tweeted about programs in categories like top time shifted program, sports events, Spanish language programming, and more. Some takeaways, according to Nielsen Social, from the first installment:

  • It’s all about sports. Eight out of ten of the the top telecasts, and even regularly scheduled programming, are all about football.
  • Kanye West mad the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards  the most tweeted about special in 2015.  There were 248,000 tweets sent at 10:49 p.m. ET,  the minute following West’s announcement that he would be running for President of the United States in 2020 during the VMAs.
  • Here’s some pub trivia: 4 million people saw at least one tweet about new episodes of The Walking Dead this year. There are an average of 424,000 tweets about each episode.
