Orange is the New Black's Danielle Brooks, Dascha Polanco, Selenis Leyva, Adirenne C. Moore and Natasha Lyonne“Orange Is the New Black” took home a Peabody Award yesterday, and Lost Remote was on the red carpet to talk to two of the show’s actresses about “OITNB’s” social media interaction with fans.

Selenis Leyva, who plays inmate Gloria Mendoza, says social media has been great for connecting the cast with fans.

“It’s been great to get that personal connection with the fans. We have so many fans who follow us everywhere and give us so much love, especially on Twitter and Instagram. It’s just wonderful…it’s great to live in the social media era, and really connect with fans, and hear what they have to say.”

Mendoza also tells us how Netflix’s binge-watching model occasionally keeps her locked up in her house.

“You know life changed…if it came out on a Friday, Saturday morning I couldn’t go out and get a cup of coffee without people recognizing…and that’s wonderful. It was a little bit overwhelming, but for me, as a Netflix watcher, I love having control over what I watch and how much I watch.”

Her fellow “inmate” Natasha Lyonne (Nicky Nichols), echoed her castmate’s sentiments.

“Obviously all this stuff is really in a vacuum unless people like it. Is it surreal that we’re living in an age where Twitter is a thing…absolutely. So let’s, begin at the beginning of that absurdity. But now that we’re in it, why not participate?”

“Orange Is the New Black” season two will be released all at once on June 6.
