Rugbyworldcup2015Omnigon, the New-York based digital consulting firm that is quickly establishing itself as the go-to for sports second screen app development, has announced the release of the official 2015 Rugby World Cup mobile app.

The app is now available on iOS and Android smartphones and the tablet version will be released ahead of the tournament – which takes place in September. For now, the app allows fans to receive World Rugby news, takes quizzes, and view video content. Later iterations will be designed to enhance the in-stadium experience.

“Omnigon is extremely proud to have signed World Rugby, among the formidable international competition, to develop the official app for this historical moment in the sport of Rugby. This exemplifies our commitment to the United Kingdom and international marketplace as we continue to aggressively build our European presence,” said David Nugent, Chief Commercial Officer, Omnigon. “As the Rugby World Cup unites tens of millions of fans throughout the world, we look forward to helping World Rugby increase engagement during the sport’s biggest event. We are excited to provide the legions of Rugby fans with the most compelling, interactive and informative mobile experiences to date, especially those lucky enough to attend the tournament in person and take advantage of all the app’s unique in-venue features.”

The Rugby World Cup is one of the largest global sporting events, and takes place this year in London.

Omnigon certainly had a leg up in its bid to develop the app, having built the World Cup second screen experience – MatchTrax – for Fox Sports. Omnigon’s close relationships with the NFL, Fox, and Fox Sports are a large part of why the agency recently opened a Los Angeles office. In November, the agency also acquired St. Petersburg, Russia-based mobile development company Touch, which will enable them to accommodate more international clients.
