Jersey Shore premiere sets social media record

Jersey Shore fans aren’t shy. Last night’s season premiere of the MTV show blew up on social media, setting at least one social TV record. SocialGuide says the show “broke the all-time record for one-day social performance of a TV series,” and Trendrr registered a sky-high social activity score that blew away any other TV series episode in recent memory.

Jersey Shore comprised a 62% share of all comments made about TV while it aired, and 56% of the social audience for Jersey Shore commented during the show, according to SocialGuide data. Trendrr measured 912,055 Twitter mentions, 51,507 on Facebook, 10,250 check-ins on GetGlue and 357 on Miso — more than all the other prime time shows in Trendrr’s daily top 10 list, combined.

You only have to wonder how many of those were talking about JWoww’s new, ahem, look.

And this morning, MTV kept the social momentum rolling by streaming “Jersey Shore Live,” a live chat with the cast with the hashtag, #jerseyshorelive.

Preliminary TV ratings show this season’s premiere came away with 9.7 million viewers, even beating last season’s record-setting premiere.
