Fans Call the Shots With #LostAndHungry

So a popular British web series comes to the U.S. to drive around and eat food, creating its own itinerary based on tips from social media. What could go wrong? Besides a little queasiness after a Philly cheesesteak and a maple glazed doughnut, hopefully not much.

TODAY announced this morning that it will be tracking SORTEDfood, a popular foodie web series, as they embark on a culinary tour of America. Fans can follow along on social media using #LostAndHungry.

The whole food tour of these great states will be dictated by viewers tweeting and posting their favorite joints at the guys.  The tour starts on April 23rd, and TODAY will be checking in with them daily to see what they’re eating. One of the hosts, Jamie Spafford, said over email that having fans help them with their tour is a natural fit:

[SORTEDfood] would not be possible without our community, which is fueled by social media – so making them a part of this tour was really important as we were building out the concept. Social media is a fantastic platform for audience interaction and engagement.

After the trailer was posted on YouTube, it already has 2,500 comments in 24 hours. Spafford says they’re looking for the real deal:

We are looking for the type of food you won’t find in a tourist guide – the must eat dishes and the best places to eat them! We want to know what people are passionate about eating, whether it is a dish that their home town is famous for or a long standing family recipe.

Last year, they did a tour of Britain with TODAY, too. You can follow them and make requests via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Tumblr. TODAY’s social accounts will also be tracking their progress.
