Diane Sawyer to tweet for first time during show

By Cory Bergman

ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer will be tweeting along with “Primetime: The Jaycee Dugard Interview” this weekend — the first time she’s tweeted from her new @dianesawyer account. Primetime will be using the hashtag #JayceeABC to encourage and focus the conversation this Sunday, 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET.

“I want to hear what viewers are thinking as they watch the way Jaycee has survived and the horrifying cascade of mistakes by law enforcement that is supposed to protect children from predators,” said Sawyer in a short blog post.

Sawyer will become the first broadcast network anchor — of the current three — to start tweeting. NBC’s Brian Williams has amassed 37,000 followers on his account, but he has yet to send a tweet. New CBS anchor Scott Pelley tweeted once when his account went live last month, but no tweets have followed. His predecessor, Katie Couric, is a Twitter native: tweeting several times a day to her 235,000 followers.
