CBS Local among new 'Save to Foursquare' partners

By Cory Bergman

Foursquare rolled out a new feature today than enables users to save their favorite restaurants, bars and other spots to their “To Do Lists” with the click of a button. Foursquare announced several publishers who are adding the “save” button on their sites, including CBS Local’s TV websites.

Here’s how it works: if you’re reading a “Best Burgers in Los Angeles” story and happen to like the review for the burger joint “25 Degrees,” click the “Save to Foursquare” button (bottom right in the image below) and it saves it to your phone. “Now, Foursquare will remind you about it the next time you’re out and about. If you’re using Radar, we’ll buzz your phone when you’re around the corner,” explains the Foursquare blog. This could happen weeks later, just when you happen to be in range of that particular establishment.

For publishers, the saved places will appear in the Foursquare app with appropriate branding and a link back to the original article. Other than CBS Local, New York Magazine, Eater.com and Frommers Travel are among the participating publishers — and we’d expect that your standard restaurant/bar directories will start adding the button, too. (Here’s how.)

This is part of Foursquare’s continuing effort to diversify beyond the increasingly boring “check-in-and-get-a-badge” approach to the app by making it a tool for discovering and exploring the best places around us.
