Women Earn 15% Less in UK Publishing

statuk.jpgAccording to a survey of 550 people who had full-time work in the British publishing industry last year, women are paid salaries 15 percent less than men.

Even though the survey was conducted before the round of major layoffs late last year, a Book Brunch article last week paints an unhappy picture of the industry: nearly 60 percent of the respondents had seen layoffs at their organizations and nearly 35 percent “felt stressed at work.”

Here’s more from the article: “The average salary for all respondents by gender was £27,973 for men and £24,234 for women … The national average salary from the National Office of Statistics ASHE median report was £24,908 to March 2008.” (Via Edward Champion)
