Two major literary adaptations dominated the box office this year, with Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 earning $259 million in the United States and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 earning $381 million domestically.

On Saturday, it passed The Hangover Part II to become the third-highest grossing movie of the year behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.”
