Tristar Pictures to Shoot a Phantom Tollbooth Movie

Phantom Tollbooth Book (GalleyCat)Tristar Pictures plans to create a new film adaptation based on The Phantom Tollbooth. Michael Vukadinovich has been hired to write the screenplay.

Here’s more from IndieWire: “The film has been in the works for quite some time and recently moved from Warner Bros. to Tristar. The project previously had Gary Ross directing the feature from a script written by Alex Tse. Now, Donald De Line is producing through his De Line Pictures with Ed McDonnell of Maple Shade Films.”

According to Screen Rant, this children’s story was first published by Random House in 1961. It was written by Norton Juster and features illustrations by Jules Feiffer. A hybrid live-action/animated Phantom Tollbooth movie, produced by the legendary Chuck Jones, was released back in 1970. (via Comic Book Resources)
