This bodes *real* well for book prizes

The British Book Awards, better known by some (for whatever godawful reason) as the Nibbies, have announced their judging panel for this year. Of the five, two are authors (Beryl Bainbridge and Jilly Cooper) one’s an agent (Ed Victor) another is an editor (Ion Trewin) and then…there’s David Beckham.

OK, I guess because one of his autobiographies ghosted by someone else won the Sports Nibbie some time ago, but Beckham? Then again, maybe it doesn’t matter, since it’s all about people-watching anyway. “It’s terribly exciting,” said Cooper. “Last year we were all gazing at Jordan and Julian Fellowes. I can’t wait.”
