Think Mobile with Publisher Podcasts

thinkmobile23.jpgFor the last two days, mediabistro.com’s Think Mobile conference conference featured the wisdom of the best minds working in smartphone and mobile content. GalleyCat attended a couple sessions and followed the Twitter feed all week.

Our favorite session was with Robert Spier, the director of Content Development and Mobile OPS at NPR.org. Mobile Content Today had a great summary of his presentation, focusing on the unexpected levels of extended reading and interaction on mobile sites. Here’s an excerpt: “A unique visitor to the iPhone app or the Android app is consuming six times more pages than visitors to NPR.org. Even visitors to the mobile site are consuming 20 percent more pages.”

Many publisher websites are loaded with audio interviews, web videos, and other long-form material. With the addition of mobile-friendly features, readers can take this material on the road with them.

We discussed the possibilities of mobile apps for publishers on the Morning Media Menu today. Press play below to listen. Or download the episode on your smartphone–it’s free on iTunes.
