The New York Observer has hired two journalists with literary reporting credentials.
Journalist Brian Gallagher will serve as deputy editor and Bookish blogger Michael H. Miller will cover arts for the paper. In addition to the Bookish column, Miller has written for NPR, The Village Voice, and The Daily.
Here’s more about the other hire: “Gallagher began as a newspaper reporter at age 19. Since then, he has worked as a reporter/researcher at Vanity Fair, senior editor at the nonfiction quarterly Topic and freelance researcher on various books. In addition to the Observer, he has contributed pieces to New York, The New Yorker, This American Life, The New York Times Magazine, The Nation, Bookforum, n+1 and Vice.”
Nitasha Tiku has been hired as a technology staff writer at the Observer. At the same time, the newspaper promoted staff writer Reid Pillifant to features editor, and online managing editor Aaron Gell to executive editor.
