Slate has done a textual analysis of the words that are most used by Suzanne Collins, Stephenie Meyer and J.K. Rowling in their own respective series of popular books.
‘Drunk,’ ‘Good-natured,’ and ‘Functional’ were among the adjectives most used by Suzanne Collins in The Hunger Games books. ‘Amazingly,’ ‘intently,’ and ‘deliberately’ were among adverbs used most by Stephenie Miller in the Twilight series. ‘Nothing happened,’ ‘Harry looked around,’ ‘Harry stared,’ were among the sentences most used by J.K. Rowling in the Harry Potter books.

To determine the relative repetitiveness of each author, I first made a list of the 50 most common three-word sentence openings each author used throughout her work. For example, Collins’ three most common openings were “I can see,” “I try to,” and “I have to.” Then I calculated the percentage of all sentence openings (not necessarily the whole sentence) that come from each author’s most used opening list:
J.K. Rowling: 2.35 percent
Suzanne Collins: 2.69 percent
Stephenie Meyer: 4.42 percent
