Take Two, Jim, This Time in English

Technically, everybody’s known about this since late last year (see, for example, Daniel Radosh‘s New Yorker feature on Bible publishing), but Thomas Nelson made it official yesterday by issuing a press release for the October release of The Word of Promise, a complete audiobook recording of the New Testament with an all-star cast that includes Jim Caviezel (above) as Jesus (reprising, of course, his role from The Passion of the Christ). Which is all fine and dandy, but I’m a lot more impressed that they got Terence Stamp to play God.* Other cast members in the 25-hour production include Academy Award winners Richard Dreyfuss, Louis Gossett, Jr., and Marisa Tomei as Mary Magdalene; Nelson currently provides an audio trailer featuring excerpts from their performances along with many others.

*Stamp is already on board to reprise the role for the eventual recording of the Old Testament, so maybe we’ll get a chance to hear him say, “Come and kneel before God!” OK, probably not.
